Anchorage restaurant offers free meals on Thanksgiving Day

Posted On: LastEdited

Kriner’s Diner dished up hundreds of Thanksgiving meals — for free.

Owner Andy Kriner said all he asked in return was a donation to the Children’s Lunchbox.

“They’re such a great organization. They cook hundreds of meals every day for kids in the area that need food,” Kriner said.

This is the third year the midtown restaurant has given out the free food. Kriner gave all his employees the day off, and his kids and grandkids pitched in to serve.

“My family was raised in the restaurant business, so it makes it easy to have just my family here,” he laughed.

Kriner said it was important to him that no one eats Thanksgiving alone.

“We see messages on our Facebook page, single people, older people that used to have family but don’t now that come in here and they still get to be around the grandkids and we treat them like family. That’s really cool. One story like that makes the whole thing worth it. It really does,” he smiled.
