Last updated at 12:39 p.m. Saturday, March 19
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Anchorage area for Saturday. The forecast includes between two and seven inches of snow accumulation by midnight.
Residents living at higher elevations along the mountains and in East Anchorage should expect to see the most snow, according to the advisory. Temperatures are expected to range between the mid-20s and lower 30s.
Road conditions have already caused crashes in and around Anchorage. A collision at the intersection of Elmore Road and Martin Luther King Jr Avenue led to the collapse of a light pole, temporarily blocking traffic, according to Anchorage police. Other crashes have been reported in various parts of town and on the Glenn Highway.
Mat-Su Borough officials reported a six-vehicle crash on the northbound side of the Glenn Highway near Matanuska River bridge north of Eklutna. Initially both sides were closed, but all lanes reopened shortly before 1 p.m.
This is a developing story, please check back for updates.
