Wasilla woman killed in second fatal crash on Friday

Published: Updated:

Two fatal crashes were reported within hours of each other Friday, according to Alaska State Troopers. One of the crashes involved three vehicles and claimed the life of a driver and a passenger. Another crash occurred on point Mackenzie Road, and claimed the life of the only driver involved.

Troopers were notified of the Point Mackenzie Road crash at 7:32 a.m. A vehicle had rolled over at Mile 3.4, an online dispatch said.

The Mat-Su Central Emergency Services responded with troopers and attempted life-saving measures on a woman found unresponsive at the scene of the crash. They were unable to revive her, troopers said. She was later identified as 66-year-old Lynette Durmbarger.

Troopers said Durmbarger was driving a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which she lost control of while trying to navigate a left-hand curve. Her vehicle rolled and she was ejected, according to troopers. They said she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Durmbarger’s next of kin have been contacted and informed of her death. The investigation into the crash continues.

Correction: An early version of this report incorrectly stated the crash occurred in the evening, rather than the morning. This has been amended.
