Published: Updated:

An Alaska State Trooper and two other people were injured during a collision early Sunday morning on the Glenn Highway.

The crash occurred around 1 a.m., according to an online dispatch. A trooper patrol vehicle heading north on the highway was rear-ended near mile 49 by a Ford F-150, driven by 32-year-old Othniel Oomittuk.

“Oomittuk continued driving away and lost control of his vehicle when he attempted a left hand turn,” troopers wrote. “His vehicle exited the roadway and came to rest at the bottom of an embankment.”

Other troopers arrived at the scene of the crash a short time later.

Oomittuk and his passenger were both still inside the truck and were taken to Mat-Su Regional Hospital. The trooper who was struck, and who hasn’t been identified, was also taken to the Mat-Su Regional Hospital and later released after being treated for minor injuries.

Troopers said the damage to the AST patrol vehicle was approximately $2,000.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, troopers said. No charges were listed in the dispatch.
