New Asante Urgent Care In Medford Staying Busy With High Demand
MEDFORD, Ore. -- People are keeping a new Medford urgent care busy.
The Asante Urgent Care opened its doors Monday and people showed up over an hour before they were scheduled to open.
This urgent care is a walk-in clinic, so there are no scheduled appointments. If you go to an urgent care instead of an emergency room, you can save yourself time and money.
Doug Diehl, MD, says, "The emergency rooms have become a primary point of access, which means they're being used for the wrong things."
According to this doctor, emergency rooms are clogged up with people there for the wrong reasons, and that's creating long wait times.
In fact, the average emergency room has a wait time of 2 and a half hours.
But urgent care centers can usually see walk-in patients within 15-45 minutes.
The average urgent care visit costs patients anywhere from 70 to 125 dollars for basic care with additional costs for shots, x-rays, and labs. Compare that with the average 1300 dollar bill an emergency room visit with cost you.
So when do you go to an urgent care?
Kathy Adams says, "Coughs, colds, sprains, I've got a headache, I just don't feel good, UTIs, basically anything that you need to get in that day of and your provider may or may not have room for you or will push you out on the schedule, but you're maybe just not acute enough to go to the emergency room."
