State Police Investigate Alleged Child Abuse at Elementary School
New York State Police are investigating an alleged incident at Tioga Hills elementary school in Apalachin.
A parent of a 10-year-old child says on March 17th her son was forcibly removed from class by his teacher and suffered a third-degree separation of his shoulder as a result, and when the child was taken to the emergency room the injury was reported to child protective services.
A spokesperson for the state police says the agency received a child abuse referral through it's hotline on March 18th regarding the alleged incident. The police spokesperson says the investigation is ongoing and the matter is currently being reviewed by the Tioga County District Attorney's office.
A spokesperson for the Vestal School District says the district is unable to comment on matters involving specific students or personnel. Attorney for the family Ron Benjamin says he plans on filing suit against the district within the next 30 days.
