NYS Health Improvement Program to Receive 2 Million

The Southern Tier region of the state's Health Improvement Program will receive $2 million to help improve the flow of medical information and fight disease.

Some of the funds will also be used to improve nutrition education and pre-natal care. But much of the money will be used to improve the health information exchange which allows doctors to access your medical records from any doctors office.

"To make sure that when they go from the emergency department to the specialist that the specialist has all the information that they need to treat that patient and make sure that patient gets the very best care that they can get," said Susan Stuard, Executive VP with Healthlinkny.

The five counties covered by these funds are Broome, Tioga, Tompkins, Chenango, and Delaware.

Southern Tier Healthlink will manage the digitization of medical records for the five-county region.
