Friends and family are remembering five-term Town of Union Supervisor Jack Cheevers.

Calling hours for Cheevers were Monday evening in Endicott. Cheevers died last Monday at age 79.

He was first elected supervisor in 1979. Cheevers served as supervisor for parts of the '70's, '80's, '90's, and the 2000's.

He was also a former chairman of the Broome County Democratic party.

"I feel very proud to have him as a family member. He was very well though of on both sides of the aisle, even though he himself was a Democrat. He's just done incredibly good things for the community," said Jack Cheevers' cousin Steve Watrous.

Funeral services for Cheevers will be held at 10:15 Tuesday morning at Allen Memorial Home followed by an 11 a.m. funeral mass at Church of the Holy Family in Endicott and burial at Calvary Cemetery.
