Recreation Park Hosts Binghamton's Largest Easter Egg Hunt

Locals are celebrating Easter early! Thousands took to Rec Park this morning searching for Easter eggs.

More than 2,000 residents came out to the park for the Binghamton's largest Easter egg hunt all put on by the Children's Charity of Greater Binghamton.

More than 10,000 eggs were hidden throughout the grass of Rec Park.

"I just can't wait to go over there," said young child Mark Smith.

It's the third Annual Easter Egg Hunt and organizers say it wasn't always a huge turnout.

"It kind of started out as more of a small neighborhood Easter egg hunt because we thought this side of town just needed something like that,
but last year the event grew. And this year the event has grown even more," said President of Children's Charity Jim Worhach.

There was a live DJ, food, prizes and the Easter Bunny even made an appearance!

Binghamton Mayor Rich David feels the event gives a offers a positive environment for families every year.

"It's about providing a fun atmosphere in Recreation Park, one of the crown jewels of our park facilities in the town of Binghamton, and it's just a great day for everyone," said Binghamton Mayor Rich David.

Local businesses like Animal Adventure, Mirabito and Tim Hortons helped to provide this year's prizes food and entertainment.

And families love every bit of it!

"It's always fun going out with the kids on a nice, somewhat sunny day. It actually cleared up nice, so we're happy for that," said Binghamton resident Mark Wiley.

Organizers say they can't wait to see how next year's event will turn out.
