Local Coalition Wants To Increase Solar Energy in Homes Throughout Southern Tier

Doubling the number of homes in the Southern Tier with solar energy - that's the goal of the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition.

On Friday the Coalition's Southern Tier Solar Works Program launched its Solarize Southern Tier East campaign. The initiative provides state incentives for homeowners in Broome, Tioga, Chenango, Delaware and Otsego counties who decide to "go solar." Campaign members will host workshops throughout the 5 counties in hopes of dispelling what they call myths about solar energy.

Southern Tier Solar Works Manager Adam Flint says, "Conventional electricity and fuels are just going to get more expensive. When you get a solar array you've fixed your electric cost for decades."
Chair of the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition Chris Burger says, "It was like a no brainer. There's no additional cost out of my pocket and I have a clean, reliable energy source."

The Solarize Southern Tier East's next workshop will be held on April 9th at Tioga Downs. For a full listing of the events visit their website
