Local Hospital Teams Up With Food Bank To Fight Hunger

UHS Hospital is teaming up with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier to stop hunger.

On Wednesday UHS Wilson Medical Center hosted it's 11th annual "empty bowls" event. For a 25-dollar donation all visitors a received a buffet lunch, dessert and a hand crafted bowl to take home. The proceeds will benefit both the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and the UHS Foundation's Stop Hunger Fund.

Communication and PR Manager for Food Bank of the Southern Tier Jonathan Fuller said, "One in every four Southern Tier residents receive some form of our services throughout the years. So there's an incredible need that exists in our community and events like empty bowls they bring in that much needed funding which we can leverage the financial donations so much further than food donations. So these are the events that really enable us to get out and do the incredible work that we're getting done."

You can still donate and grab a bowl on Thursday. The "empty bowls" event continues from 11:30 to 1:30 inside the Russell Room at the UHS Binghamton General Hospital.
