Sen Kirsten Gillibrand Proposes Bill to Support Paid Family Leave

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is touring New York state to build support for her proposed bill that would provide all workers in the country with paid family leave.

Earlier this month the senator reintroduced the family and medical insurance leave act also known as the "Family" Act that would establish a nationwide medical leave insurance program.

Gillibrand says the new law would provide all employees with paid leave in the case of a health emergency. And the benefit would apply to both full time and part time employees.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said, "It works just like social security. It's an earned benefit that stays with you throughout your life time.
Employers and employees each put a few dollars a week about the cost of a cup of coffee and after a year are eligible for emergency leave funds."

According to the senator the united states is the only industrialized nation in the world without any form of paid family leave. However, California, New Jersey and Rhode Island are states that have implemented paid leave legislation.
