2015-2016 NYS Budget to Invest in Education and Ethics

The $142 billion state budget has been passed, and Governor Andrew Cuomo says it invests in two fundamental issues--education and ethics.

The governor says this year's budget raises state education aid funding to a record high 23.5 billion dollars. As for ethics reform, public officials must disclose all outside income, and will not be able to use campaign contributions for personal use.

Assemblyman Clifford Crouch says another big piece is the $1.5 billion Upstate Revitalization Initiative.

"We have to basically compete for that 1.5 million so it'll be three areas selected and they will get 500 million dollars for economic development activities. So we're hoping that the Southern Tier will shake out in good shape with that," said Clifford Crouch, New York State Assemblyman, 122nd District.

Crouch says overall the budget is fair and balanced. It also keeps spending to less than 2% of growth.
