Susquehanna Valley Girls Basketball Team are Honored by Broome County after State Championship Win

After winning the State Championship in Basketball, the Susquehanna Valley Girls team are being honored by Broome County.

The Lady Sabers were treated to pizza, wings, and cake by Broome County Executive Debbie Preston on Wednesday. The players received certificates for the win while the school received a proclamation from the county. The team was invited to attend Broome County's legislative meeting on April 16th, where the honor's will be formally recognized by the legislature. The honor's are all part of what's become an unbelievable experience for the team, who won the first girls basketball state championship in school history.

Sabers Head Coach Chad Frejie said, "The beginning of the year, the goal was to play in the Section Four Final. We said at the first meeting of the season that you want to compete at the State level, get to the Final Four. So to have accomplished their goals this early, it's just a great feeling."

Senior Point Guard Jordyn Williams added, "Winning the State Championship, I don't even know if any of us realized what that game meant until the last few seconds and it really hit me. I was like, 'Wow, what did we just do?'"

What are the chances the Sabers could repeat this victory? Williams and Lindsay Gregory are the only seniors on the team, so plenty of the girls will be back next year.
