State Title brings Susquehanna Valley closer together

Tragedy and triumph always seem to bring communities together. Luckily for the Susquehanna Valley community, it was the latter that happened this weekend. The girls basketball program won the first state title in school history, defeating Hoosick Falls 51-45 in the Class B Girls Finals.

The SV faithful traveled the 4+ hour round trip to Hudson Valley Community College to be a part of the event, cheering their girls on to victory. Having that kind of support made all the difference.

"It's tied our whole entire school together," said senior guard Jordyn Williams. "Everybody's coming and cheering for us. Everybody's supporting us. There's pictures of us along the hallway, it just makes us feel so proud to be an SV student and everybody seems to support us. It's just a great feeling that we can be a part of that."

"In our gym the America Flag is right underneath the state banner sign and every night I look up there like 'wow, it'd be great if we could get up there one day, so it's a dream come true for me personally," said Sabers Head Coach Chad Freije.

But the road isn't over just yet. The Sabers travel to Albany next weekend for the Federation Championships. They play Staten Island Academy in the semifinals at 9am. If they win, they will play either St. Mary's of Buffalo (CHSAA) or Brooklyn College Academy (PSAL) on Sunday at 2:00.
