Michele Harris' Best Friend Testifies in Cal Harris Trial

Posted On:
An emotionally charged day in Schoharie County Court as Michele Harris' best friend testifies in the third trial of Cal Harris.

The Owego business man is charged the death of his estranged wife Michele who disappeared in September 2001.

Michele's close friend Cindy Turner couldn't contain tears Wednesday, while on the stand.

Turner said that while on the phone with Cal two days after Michele's disappearance he told her that she didn't understand, that Michele was no good.

According to Turner while discussing the investigation at the Harris home Cal said that police found a bread loaf size blood stain in the garage which he attributed to a cut he received while shaving.

With jurors excused in the middle of Turner's testimony, Defense Attorney Bruce Barket erupted accusing Prosecutor Paul Clyne of giving Turner nonverbal cues during her testimony, Barket argued that Clyne was motioning to his glasses in order to prompt the witnesses response.

Clyne admitted to touching his glasses and Judge George Bartlett instructed jurors to disregard Clyne's action.

During cross examination Defense attorney Donna Aldea highlighted inconsistencies in Turner's testimony regarding Cal's description of the blood stain found in the garage.

Aldea also called into question how well Turner actually knew Michele as Turner told authorities that Michele would never have an affair when in fact she was.

Earlier in the day jurors heard testimony from NYS Trooper Ronald Morse, who pulled Cal Harris over for a minor traffic infraction a year after Michele's disappearance.

Morse says he followed Harris' truck briefly after Harris turned around and sped in the opposite direction upon spotting police on an extremely narrow seasonal road.

Morse says that when pulled over Harris told him he was in the area to check his deer stands.

Prosecutors argue that Harris was fleeing from police and that this demonstrates his "consciousness of guilt".

Cross examination of Turner will continue Thursday morning at 9:15am.
