BU Students and Community Members Shave Their Heads for St. Baldricks

Posted On:
Some Binghamton University students and local residents shaved their heads Tuesday night to raise money for pediatric cancer research.

The BU Athletic Department's Student Athletic Advisory Committee put on the Fourth Annual St. Baldrick's event Tuesday night from 6 to 8 pm.

The St. Baldrick's foundation helps generate grants for pediatric research.

This year, SAAC set the bar high with a goal of raising $10,000. One Binghamton University employee says she worked up the courage to shave her head after last year's St. Baldrick's event, and she couldn't be happier with her decision.

"Anybody who's going through chemotherapy, it's so difficult for them and having a human hair wig gives you a little bit of a sense of normalcy. And being able to give that sense of normalcy to someone who is really struggling is so important to me," said Heather Miller, the Director of Learning Enhancement with the BU Athletics Department.

Shaving services were provided by Cost Cutters, and those who didn't wish to shave their entire head were able to get their hair trimmed and donate to Locks of Love.
