Educators Gather in Chenango Valley to Discuss Ways to Improve How They Use Technology

Posted On:
How can teachers improve their use of technology to educate their students? That was the topic at Chenango Valley High School where over 500 educators gathered on Friday.

At the Southern Tier connected conference teachers talked about best practices in a way to better integrate technology into the classroom. Major trends today include responsible use of social media and the transition from desktops and laptops to handheld mobile devices.

"We are all about the appropriate use of technology in schools, which is not a one-size-fits-all. There are very diverse learners among our students. So how to specialize the technology for each students needs?" asked Dr. Amy Perry-DelCorvo, CEO of NYSCATE.

"What is it you want students to learn? And then if technology is going to help you then it's a great match. But you can't start with the tool. We really do have to start with the learning and then think about the ways technology can help us reinvent that," said Kerri Bullock of Broome-Tioga BOCES.

One of the exercises teachers took part in was programming a robot using code. Incorporating coding into a classroom can spur problem solving and creative thinking.
