Locals Gather to Demand the Return to Fair Funding for Public Schools

Hundreds of community members gathered at the West Middle School in Binghamton tonight to show their support for public schools and education.

However, teachers, parents and public officials say they're not happy with the way Albany is funding public schools in the Southern Tier. So on Thursday night they're hoping to send a message to the Governor, that he must return fair funding to our public schools. Local teachers said there are many battles to be fought in education but funding is the most important. Without state aid many programs in public schools are getting cut and teachers say the students are the ones who are suffering.

Whitney Point High School Teacher, Nancy Wallace said "The idea for us that makes a lot more sense is to invest in our public school that we already have. We're down to bare bones in many of them and we need to re-invest in our future citizens."

Wallace says that they will keep the pressure on New York officials until equitable funding for all districts is granted.
