St. Baldrick's Holds Annual Head Shaving Event

The American Cancer Society confirms more than 15,000 new cases of pediatric cancer were found in 2014.

The St. Baldrick's foundation is aiming at lowering those numbers with donations by holding a nation-wide annual head shaving event.

18-Year-old Tyler Everts is no stranger to pediatric cancer.
She was diagnosed just days after her 15th birthday with AML, a form of Leukemia.

"Not being in school and not being with your friends and being 15 and being bald, that just hits home for a girl especially," said Tyler Everts, 3.5 Year Cancer Survivor.

Candor has been participating in the event for 5 years and has raised more than $130,000 for pediatric cancer research.

"No words can really describe it. It's an amazing cause for such a horrible thing but the fact that everyone is here shaving their head and donating and is willing to say their story is just absolutely incredible," said Tyler Everts.

Everts is now 3 and a half years cancer free and credits the support of her family and loved ones for her success.
"I would like to send the message to everyone that children or anyone with cancer don't have a choice when they lose their hair.

"I had the choice but my choice was also to raise money for pediatric cancer research," said Kelly Starkweather, Event Chairperson.

"It's hard but stay as positive as you can. It makes it a little easier to have a smile on your smile face and I know it's hard but just know that there's many people who support you and you're really not alone," said Tyler Everts.

This was the 6th year Candor hosted the Saint Baldrick's day head shaving event.

The event raised more than $20,000 in donations.
