Binghamton Police Department Kicks off Citizen Police Academy

Posted On:
Some Binghamton residents are getting a unique lesson in police procedures from current Binghamton police officers.

On Wednesday night the Department kicked off the 10-week 2015 Citizen Police Academy. Throughout the course of the program, participants will learn about various units in the police department--including SWAT, CSI, K-9 and the Special Investigations Unit. Mayor Rich David says that it's exciting when he comes to welcome a new class and the room is completely full.

Mayor Rich David, City of Binghamton, said: " We do an academy in the fall and one in the spring, and it's so successful that we're looking at expanding it and adding more academies so more residents can have the opportunities to learn how to work with the police department and how to make their neighborhoods safer."

The class will run until April 6th. Every student over the age of 18 will have a chance to ride with an officer on patrol.
