Binghamton took control for the rest of the frame, scoring three more times going into halftime. Tyler Deluca made it 4-all at 10:10 mark and then Mitchell Rick gave BU a 6-5 edge with 5:40 to play in the half. After a Hobart goal, Nelson found Hauck for the go-ahead goal with 18 seconds showing on the clock. The hosts entered the half with a one-goal advantage.

Daniel Mazurek won the ensuing faceoff and sprinted in, shooting to beat Jackson Brown, the Hobart goalie. The goal came just six seconds after Nelson's and allowed BU to grab a 9-7 lead. The Statesmen came back with four consecutive goals to go ahead, but O'Donnell finished a Kocis pass at the 4:46 mark to pull Binghamton within a goal. BU could not find the tying score, though, as Hobart escaped with the win.

Nelson, a senior, posted a hat trick and an assist. The three-goal performance is the second of Nelson's BU career. He has now scored at least a point in all 30 games of his Bearcat career.
