Binghamton Mayor Rich David Delivers State of the City Address at City Hall

Mayor Rich David lays out ambitions for the year ahead as he delivers his second State of the City address.

In the coming year the Mayor says he plans to build off of last year's success by continuing to increase public safety, improve infrastructure and boost economic development.

According to Mayor David, Binghamton is back in the game.

In 2015 the David says he will continue to work towards making the streets of Binghamton safer by purchasing 34 body cameras for police officers.

During tonight's address the Mayor also announced that he will reallocate $1 million dollars in federal funding towards impactful community projects.

A large portion of the Mayor's plan for 2015 involves the continued revitalization of the city's infrastructure.

David says that 13.5 miles of city streets including Riverside Dr. and Front Street will undergo improvements and $1.3 million will be spend on parking garage repairs.

In total $28 million worth of projects will be implemented in the coming year

According to David Infrastructure improvements are key to luring new businesses to the area.

"It's all about improving the environment to make it more attractive for residents and business owners. That's why it's so important. It has been neglected for so many years. That's one of the primary reasons we have to do so much now," says David.

"I understand that our infrastructure needs work and I understand that the Mayor has a lot of ambitious plans and I think that's great. Ambition is great it needs to be tempered with balance and we have to be responsible as we move forward," says City Council Member Teri Rennia

Along with his enthusiasm for the 2015 plans the mayor expressed concerns with city's finances, specifically the city's constitutional tax limit.

The mayor says that in the coming year he will work to restore bond rating to the original level.

While the David says he recognizes his plan is highly aggressive he feels it will make Binghamton safer, prosperous and more vibrant.
