Binghamton Sertoma Club Holds Annual Freedom Banquet

Posted On:
The Binghamton Sertoma Club held its annual Freedom Banquet to recognize a few special individuals.

The two awards presented were for a service to mankind award, which is a
non-Sertoman individual who is recognized for exceptional community volunteer service, and a Sertoman of the year award, presented to an outstanding Sertoman for exceptional contributions to the club. Service to mankind award winner Marge Telfer says that through all of her community service, including work through her church, with the office for the aging in Owego, as well as lunches through her church for high school students, the most gratifying has been her work with hospice patients.

Marge Telfer, Recipient of the Service to Mankind Award said: "Doing my home visits to the shut-ins, where eucharistic ministers--which means bringing communion to people who are shut in--and that was over a long period of time, probably 30-40 people that I visited."

The banquet also honored two special students, Alyssa and Neesha Powell, two sisters who won the essay contest with the prompt: "What freedom means to me."
