Bearcats lose to Boston College in opening game of GSU Tourney

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Megan Cooley scored the winning run on a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning, leading Boston College (5-2) to a 5-4 win over Binghamton (0-1) in the opening day of the Georgia Southern Eagle Classic on Friday afternoon. The game was the first of two contests the Bearcats play on Friday as they open up their 2015 season. Game two comes against the host Eagles at 4 p.m.

The Bearcats had rallied from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game in the top of the fifth inning. Junior outfielder Sydney Harbaugh doubled home the first run and later scored on a three-run triple by freshman pitcher Sarah Miller.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, however, Cooley led off with a walk, advanced on a single one batter later. When she successfully stole third base, that put her in position to score the game-winning run.

Allyson Frei got the win while Miller, who went 6.0 innings in her collegiate debut, was tagged with the loss.

Harbaugh finished the game 2-for-3.
