Bearcats forced to play small, creates competition
Above all the issues the Bearcats have faced this year, the hardest to cope with are the injuries to Dusan Perovic and Nick Madray. The two tallest Bearcats have missed a significant portion of the season and Madray may not be back for another week or more.
Justin McFadden, who has been playing underneath, continues to recover from illness leaving BU further undersized. Tommy Dempsey jokes that John Rinaldi is the scout team point guard but during games ends up playing power forward. There is a bright side though, there's an increase in in-team competition.
"Being shorthanded, having the deck stacked against us most of the year, I think we've created that underdog/fighter mentality," Dempsey said. "I think we're playing that way. We talk about it. We talk about never giving up, not quitting. We've been able to fight with whoever we've been able to put on the court. We've been able to fight every night. I think that's something that is, if you're looking for some things that could build within you, that can help you as you move forward with your program, I think that competitive spirit is alive right now."
The Bearcats are in New Hampshire Saturday at 1:00
