Governor Cuomo Announces NYS Housing Funding

Governor Andrew Cuomo is trying to fix up housing around the state.

The governor announces $7.3 million in funding for the construction and rehab of 19 affordable home ownership developments that represent more than 500 New York homes.

500 homes across the state include units produced by the governor's is $1 billion House NY commitment. Part of that initiative to finance more than 14,300 affordable homes by 2018.

Cuomo describes the funding as "An investment in the future of communities and neighborhoods all across New York."

Mayor Rich David explains how this action will benefit residents in the City of Binghamton.

Mayor Rich David said, "Things like repairing your roof, new windows, entrance and exit and egress issues things of that nature where homeowners can apply for those sorts of repairs. Now there's approximately 40 homes in the City of Binghamton that can we be serviced and that's about $8,750 per unit."

In total the City of Binghamton is getting $350,000 of funding.

David anticipates the money being allocated over the next few years.
