Boys Scouts Claim Higher Achievement Rating

Posted On:
Dozens of Boy Scouts from all over the Southern Tier can now claim the highest achievement rank in scouting.

This afternoon, a recognition reception honored young men who became Eagle Scouts and those who completed more than 200 hours of community service.

Each scout was paired with a sponsor who works in their field of interest.
The Scouts say achieving the honor is something they've worked for since they began their scouting career.

David Cobey, Eagle Scout of Afton Troop 51 said, "It's sort of overwhelming because from the beginning I had always looked up to the Eagle Scouts and to actually be here, it's kind of sad that it's the end but it's also the beginning of something greater."

Theresa Schultheis, Scout Master of Afton Troop 51, "It's an amazing ting. It's really great to see the kids doing things that have improved their lives. For some of them, it's made their lives a lot better."

Only two percent of all youth who join scouting earn the rank of Eagle.
