CHOW Gets State Grant to Re-Stock Shelves

The Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse - or CHOW - is getting a $25,000 state grant which will help the agency re-stock it's shelves after the always-busy holiday season.

This grant will help provide up to 100,000 meals throughout the Binghamton area. CHOW officials say there is high demand for food donations in order to support the 62 food pantries and soup kitchens in the area. Nearly half of the recipients of food at these locations are children.

"Seventy percent of the kids inside of our schools in our area are on the free and reduced lunch program. They're living in poverty, they require some help and this is a way for our community to come together to meet people's needs," said Executive Director at Broome County Council of Churches.

Despite the grant, CHOW says it is in constant need of support. You can make donations Monday through Friday 8am until 4pm at it's warehouse at 3 Otseningo Street in Binghamton.
