Candor HS Group Recognized Nationally for Creating Device for Disabled

Posted On:
A group of Candor High School students finished near the top of the class in a national competition that is changing the lives of those with disabilities.

The students are developing a device that can provide more mobility for those who have limited motion in their hands. The group finished 8th out of 72 teams in the Source America Design Challenge. Their design is being used to help a woman who is now confined to a wheelchair after a car accident.

It's also being modified to help 11-year-old Candon Westervelt, the son of a teacher at Candor High School. He has recovered from a hemispherectomy, a procedure which removed half his brain to cure him of a seizure disorder, but still has mobility issues in his left hand. Even with the contest done the students plan on working on the devices to serve more people with mobility issues.
