Black History Month Kicks Off

Sunday marks day one of Black History month.
The month of February was chosen by historian and educator Doctor Carter G. Woodson back in 1926.

Woodson originally pushed for a "Negro History Week" -- the second week of the month of February -- chosen after the birth dates of two people whom Woodson felt had significantly affected the lives of African Americans: Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.

The week evolved into Black History Month in 1976.
Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 a.m. in the East/West Dining Room at Lourdes an associate from the O.R. will share a special display to commemorate Black History month.
