Over a Half Million Dollars in Federal Funding Headed To Drug Recovery Center

Posted On:
A Binghamton drug recovery center will get $642,000 in federal funding meant to fight homelessness to help maintain it's services.

Fairview Recovery Services is one of about a dozen programs in our area to get over a million and a half dollars from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Fairview has a crisis center, community residence, supportive living, and a shelter to help people transition from drug addiction to independence. The agency has received HUD grants since 1998. In recent years it has seen a rise in those who need it's services.

"We have a lengthy waiting list for our services right now. The need is increasing. I think we're seeing a lot more younger people, a lot more heroin use, a lot more recidivism, coming in and out," said Michele Napolitano, Executive Director of Fairview Recovery Services.

According to Napolitano, Fairview has about 800 people come through it's crisis center each year. At any given time it's treating a couple of hundred people in it's various programs.
