Jewish Organization Opens it's Hanukkah Celebration To The Community

By Fox 40 News Staff.
Wednesday night marks the 4th night of Hanukkah. In recognition, the Jewish Community Center hosted it's community Hanukkah Celebration.

The area's Jewish community, along with others who were interested in learning and participating, came out to the celebration in Vestal today to continue a tradition that has taken place since the 1920's.

The event, put on by the Jewish Community Center and the Greater Binghamton Jewish Federation, featured a variety of festivities such as a candle lighting, performances by the JCC preschool, and a torch walk to light the outdoor community menorah.

"We do this because as you can see, it bring the community together. Hanukkah is a joyous holiday, a joyous occasion. Its a great opportunity for getting the community together across the spectrum," Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton president, Ariea Ullman said.

A traditional Hanukkah dinner was also served, featuring a spread of foods, including latkes.

Monday is the final day of Hanukkah.
