FRANKLYWNOW - New Ramp Opening on Route 17 Westbound

New Ramp Opening on Route 17 Westbound

An update on the Prospect Mountain Construction Project.

A new ramp linking Interstate 81 south and Route 17 west is expected to open Thursday afternoon.

Since December, a left hand detour has connected drivers from I-81 to Route 17 west.

The new right hand ramp will be very similar in location to its past route.

While the ramp is two lanes wide, it will be down to one while crews work on lane striping and road signs.

“Between the Prospect Mountain phases, the operational abilities of this Prospect Mountain project will be well seen as we finish Phase 1 and move into Phase 2 of Prospect Mountain,” said Jack Williams, Region 9 Director of New York State Department of Transportation

Officials say Prospect Mountain's first phase is more than 91% complete and should be done before the end of this year.

This phase included replacing bridges over the Chenango River.

The four-year long phase 2 project will begin shortly after.

This phase will reconfigure Interchange 4, State route 17/I-81 and State route 7.
