Rep. Richard Hanna Joins Fred Akshar for Event in Johnson City

Posted On:
In around 20 days, local voters will go to the polls for election day. Congressman Richard Hanna is trying to give a fellow Republican a boost, appearing in Johnson City with State Senate candidate Fred Akshar...

The two stood before an abandoned factory on Corliss Avenue that is slated to be redeveloped as Binghamton University's School of Nursing if the Southern Tier wins the half-billion dollar Upstate Revitalization Initiative.

Hanna trumpeted a bill he's sponsoring that would allow tax breaks for those studying science, technology, engineering, and math. Akshar says he's seen the impact new development can have.

"We've seen it happen in downtown Binghamton. There's been $100 million in private investment down there and slowly we're making a transition for the better down there in downtown Binghamton. We have an opportunity to do that right here where we stand," said Akshar.

Akshar says our area needs to see more of the investment he says the state has made in places such as Buffalo, Rochester, and New York City.
