National Emergency Preparedness Month

September is National Emergency Preparedness month, and Broome county officials are urging people not to wait for disaster, but to plan for it.

The major themes that Broome county residents are advised to prepare for include flooding, wildfires, hurricanes and power outages in this area.

"And it's not if, but when the next major disaster will occur, that we need to be ready. thankfully, September is national preparedness month. this is a time when we should all look around and think, am i prepared? Do i have a plan? Do i have what I need? - Public Service Committee Chairman Scott Baker

County Executive Debbie Preston also mentioned that it is only a matter of time before Broome County sees flooding similar to 2011.
