Attorney Ron Benjamin Speaks Against Mayor David

Attorney Ron Benjamin speaks on behalf of a woman filing a lawsuit against Mayor Rich David.

The lawsuit comes after a claim that David abused his power as Binghamton Mayor after an altercation involving his girlfriend and a WBNG employee inside a downtown Binghamton Bar on News Year's Day.

The biggest issue of this lawsuit is the phone call Mayor Rich David made to WBNG after the incident that happened on New Year's morning at Social on State.

According to the complaint filed on January 16th, Mayor David contacted WBNG on January 6th to inform the company on the behavior of Daisy Dawson, an employee at that station. However Benjamin is claiming David abused his political power to prevent further investigation on the incident.

Attorney Ron Benjamin said, "There has to be a factual for predicate the call. And if she never did anything about using BNG in an improper way than that disappears and when that disappears you have the true motive which he wanted to squelch a criminal investigation by pressuring the victim to be silent or lose her job."

The Mayor released a statement saying, "I made that call on my own behalf and as a former employee of wbng to alert my colleague that WBNG was being represented this way by a current employee. I did not act in any official capacity as the Mayor of the City of Binghamton when I made the call and i did not ask WBNG to take or refrain from taking any action with respect to the incident."

Benjamin believes the mayor's position should be called into question and he hopes to take this case to Broome County court by the end of this year to settle this case.
