VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton freshman men's basketball guard Romello Walker has been named the America East Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Walker becomes the third different BU rookie to win the weekly award this season.

He averaged 17.5 points in two games during the week, shooting 59 percent from the field. Walker also averaged 6.5 rebounds. On Wednesday, he scored 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting at Hartford, keeping the Bearcats close with 15 points in the second half. On Saturday, Walker hit for a season-high 18 points in BU's 65-46 win over Maine. He also pulled down eight rebounds and had a thunderous steal and dunk sequence.

Walker is averaging 16.3 points in conference play, which ranks fourth in the America East.

He joins fellow first-year players Willie Rodriguez (Dec. 29) and Dusan Perovic (Dec. 8) to give the Bearcats three weekly winners thus far. Last season, BU became the first program in America East history to have four different rookies win the weekly award.

Binghamton plays at Albany on Wednesday (ESPN3).
