New Laws In Place Geared Toward Helping Veterans for 2015

The office of Senator Libous announces some laws geared toward helping veterans and the businesses that hire them. Some business managers are saying a reward for hiring a vet can serve as an incentive for many companies and a local veteran agrees...

Officials at Sage Truck Driving School know what it means to help out a veteran. Just ask Antonio Phillips, he's an Army Veteran preparing for work in the civilian world.
"The military career is always a good career but if when you get out you do have options to continue a different career so just continue growing," said Phillips.

Phillips is currently taking classes to learn to drive for commercial trucking companies. This school and the companies they work with, highly favor veteran's.
"I think veterans bring something to the plate as far as they have a work ethic. They know what it is to show up on time. They know what it is to do a good job. They have sticktuativeness," said John Snider, school director.

Even more incentive? At the start of the year businesses can now receive a tax credit for hiring a veteran. The credit is equal to 10 percent of the total amount of wages paid to the veteran during their first full year of employment.
If the veteran is disabled, the credit amount is increased to 15 percent. A comforting resolution for veterans looking for work.

"It gives me hope you know what I mean. You worked in the military for a while you're used to that life and you get out you want a different life. and when businesses offer incentive to soldiers who come back from tour. It helps them restart over," said Phillips.

"We truly do understand that some point in their life they signed a check you know to the United States for their life. And we do appreciate that," said Snider.

Another law is geared toward assisting homeless veterans, providing them with housing and housing related expenses.
