BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators fell 3-0 to the host Portland Pirates in the first of three straight road games this week. Darian Dziurzynski, younger brother of Binghamton ’s David, notched two goals while Mike McKenna turned aside all 35 of Binghamton ’s shots to lead Portland to their fifth straight win.

Dziurzynski opened the scoring for the Pirates 14:19 into the first period with a wrap-around attempt that beat the B-Sens Peter Mannino for his sixth goal of the season. Portland carried the one-goal advantage into the first intermission outshooting Binghamton 15-8.

The second frame appeared to be headed to a stalemate until Dylan Reese made it 2-0 with just four seconds remaining in the period. With the faceoff to Mannino’s left, the puck flipped into the air and settled in front of Reese just inside the blue line. Reese, who was the lone skater on the ice with an idea of where the puck landed, quickly wristed the puck towards Mannino and found the back of the net for his fifth goal on the year.

Portland’s Dziurzynski made it 3-0 with his second of the evening just 2:51 into the final period. McKenna stopped all 18 of Binghamton ’s scoring chances in the closing 20 minutes of play to earn his fourth shutout of the season.

Mannino finished with 35 saves on 38 shots faced in his second appearance in net for Binghamton .

The B-Sens are back in action Friday, January 9, when they visit the Worcester Sharks for a 7:30p.m. faceoff. Fans can listen live on US 96.9FM.
