Carol's Test story about a Cadillac

The lack of repair money to fix a vintage Cadillac busted up a crime spree Wednesday morning.

Merriam police are still looking for the suspects who they say broke into at least three cars in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood. The thieves stole Charles Gates' candy red Cadillac from his garage.

The1996 Cadillac DeVille was later founded abandoned on Shawnee Mission Parkway near Melrose Drive in Shawnee. The thieves abandoned the Caddy because the engine blew out.

Gates thinks his lack of money may have saved the car.

"I need to get the carburetor finally fixed," Gates told KCTV5. "Everything else is fine. It doesn't accelerate too well. I am glad I didn't have the money to fix it."

If you have any information on the suspects, call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
