Glenn-Parks Highway interchange offramp to be closed for cleanup

Published: Updated:

After a September fuel spill and fire during the Alaska State Fair, officials will close the northbound Glenn-Parks Highway interchange offramp starting Saturday, Oct. 3 for cleanup and repairs.

Officials will close the ramp at 8 a.m. It’s anticipated the offramp will reopen “early next week,” according to a statement from the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. Drivers can use the Old Glenn Highway and Trunk Road as detours.

A semi tractor was hauling fuel-filled tanks when one tank overturned and caught on fire Sept. 4, officials said. The driver escaped uninjured. The exit was closed for several hours, hampering fair traffic.

Cleanup work will involve removing contaminated soil and restoring the ramp to its condition before the mishap.
