Seward Highway reopened after head-on collision in Girdwood area

Two drivers were hospitalized after a head-on collision along Seward Highway near the Alyeska Highway early Monday morning, officials say.
According to Alaska State Troopers spokesperson Megan Peters, 27-year-old Chadwick Dixon Kyffin of Seward was driving south in a Jeep Cherokee when he lost control as he was rounding a corner. He slid into the northbound lane, hitting a Toyota Camry head-on. Trapper Dan Poindexter, 36, of Soldotna was driving the Camry.
The drivers — and the only occupants in each vehicle — were hospitalized in Anchorage and are reportedly in stable condition, Peters said in an email. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
The two vehicles were totaled, an online dispatch says. No citations were issued.
“Road conditions were icy at the time of the wreck,” the dispatch says.
The crash occurred at Mile 90.5, and motorists were told to expect delays from “total highway blockage.”
