Ronald McDonald House to open in Anchorage

Published: Updated:

The Alaska Native Medical Center will be the site of the first Ronald McDonald House in Alaska. The charity that helps families deal with medically fragile children is sponsoring a floor in a new patient housing project that is going up on the ANMC campus.

LeeAnn Garrick with the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium said the charity will have a focus on women with high-risk pregnancies who have to come to Anchorage for treatment.

“They have a volunteer coordinator that works with our volunteer coordinator at ANMC to provide additional programing for families, nutrition, even exercise classes for the children,” Garrick said. “It’s programming that they wouldn’t necessarily be able to get while they are staying here.”

Garrick said the new building with the Ronald McDonald floor will open in the early part of 2017.
