UPDATED Monday, Feb. 1, 4:30 p.m.:

Roughly 1,000 residents in Anchorage experienced a power outage Monday afternoon.

M&LP announced that power had been restored to all customers around 3:30 p.m. Company spokesperson Julie Harris said the cause of the outage was equipment issues with a transformer in the area.

Original Story

Municipal Light & Power is working to restore power to those affected. Julie Harris with M&LP said the outage disrupted power to the area surrounding the intersection of Arctic Boulevard and Fireweed Lane.

As of 1 p.m., M&LP reported that customers east of Arctic Boulevard had power back on and crews were working to get power to those west of Arctic. There was no estimate about when the company would have power back for all residents.

Harris cited issues with a substation as a possible cause for the outage, but said the exact cause is unknown at this time.

Anyone without power may call ML&P at 279-7671 to report the outage.
