Run/Walk for Warmth raises $46K to keep Alaskans warm

Even during a relatively mild winter, heating bills can be expensive. On Saturday, hundreds of Alaskans came together to make sure their neighbors have a warm home.
The Run/Walk for Warmth raised $46,000 to help families pay for rent and utilities. The event was started by the United Way of Anchorage five years ago.
“Since 2011, we’ve helped over 260 families, which is remarkable when you look around the community and think that these are people you might not ever meet or actually know, but it definitely contributes to the generally feeling here in Anchorage of positivity and stable families,” said Aimee Chauvot of United Way.
The United Way said it is still about $7,000 short of its goal. If you’d like to donate, visit their website.
