Road closures in downtown Anchorage announced ahead of Fur Rondy 2016

The Municipality of Anchorage has announced road closures in downtown ahead of the 2016 Fur Rendezvous.


Fourth Avenue will be closed to traffic between G and C streets from Friday, Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. through 8 p.m. the next day, according to a statement from city officials. Fourth Avenue between E Street and C Street will remain closed through Sunday, Feb. 28 at approximately 2 p.m.


Other road closures include:



  • Fifth & Sixth Avenues will be closed between G Street and Eagle Street from 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. for the Frostbite Footrace on Saturday, Feb. 27.

  • Fifth and Sixth Avenues will also be closed between K Street and C Street from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday during the Grand Parade on Saturday, Feb. 27.

  • A Street will have limited access between Ninth Avenue and Fifth Avenue from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday during the Frostbite Footrace and the Grand Parade on Saturday, Feb. 27.


City officials said drivers should expect delays around the road closures. Parking will also be limited, as parking spaces on Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Avenues will not be available. Anchorage police will be downtown to assist in directing traffic and answer questions drivers may have.
