Municipal Wood Lot open in South Anchorage

If your spring cleaning includes lots of yardwork, there’s a place where you can drop off all those branches, sticks and other debris; the Municipal Wood Lot in South Anchorage opened for the season on Friday.
John See with the Anchorage Fire Department said cleaning up your property not only makes it look better but can also go a long way toward making it fire safe.
“We are rapidly transitioning into fire season,” said See. “As soon as the snow goes away people need to look at their backyards, the side of their homes and think of getting rid of any of those volatile fuels that have accumulated.”
See said the Wood Lot accepts only natural wood products, no construction material or rocks. There is a minimum $15 for a standard pickup load. The cost for large trucks or trailers is $30. No credit cards are accepted.
The Wood Lot is located at 100th Avenue and C Street and is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m until 6 p.m.
See said people are no longer able to take firewood from the lot, however, they can take as many loads of free wood chips as they like.
