CB7, mayor meet at town hall on downzoning

Published: Updated:

Community Board 7 continued its campaign to halt what it sees as overdevelopment near Mosholu Parkway during a town hall meeting with Mayor Bill de Blasio Tuesday.

Residents say they fear some of the mayor's ambitious growth plans could lead to massive buildings that will alter the character of their neighborhood.

They want the area to be downzoned -- or rezoned in a way that will prevent larger developments and gentrification from taking over.

Councilman Andrew Cohen, who hosted the mayor at the event, supported CB7 last week at a meeting with city planning officials.

The mayor also answered questions on other topics. Some residents called for a green trail along the waterfront, similar to what exists in Manhattan.

The mayor said it "sounds like a very good idea," but did not commit to the proposal, explaining that he would need to learn more about it first.
