Some Suffolk residents whose water bill tripled this summer from the last have called the Suffolk Water Authority to complain.
Nancy Galano, of Stony Brook, told News 12 that an extra 82,000 gallons of water was added to her bill.
"I haven't done anything differently this year. I do water a lot, but I do that every year," said Galano.
Galano says she called the Suffolk Water Authority, which told her she must have a leak. She says the Suffolk Water Authority suggested she call a plumber and sprinkler maintenance to check out her property.
Rick Hoenig, of Selden, says he is having the same problem.
Hoenig says according to the water authority, he used about 83,000 more gallons than he did last year. The increase is equivalent to filling his swimming pool four times during the three-month period.
Janice Tinsley, of the Suffolk County Water Authority, says the company "stands by the accuracy of our meters."
The Suffolk Water Authority told News 12 it has not seen an increase in customer complaints.
Anyone with a water bill problem is asked to give them a call at 631-698-9300.
